Before I moved to Idaho, I used to live in the Pacific Northwest urban metropolis of Seattle, Washington from 1987-1999, and then for a few months during 2004.
I often travel to the city to visit friends or to fly out of it to other places in the world.
In 2014 I did a short Art Ministry road trip up to the Seattle area to come alongside a friend and a fellow artist who was at the time the President of the PTA at her children's public elementary school. She had procured a grant to pay for enhancing the look of the school (it is located in an urban low income neighborhood and had become run down). She asked if I would be willing to help her create some large murals throughout the outdoor hallways that would be colorful and fun for the children, the staff, and the neighborhood to view.
Before I arrived I had her work with the teachers to get the children to draw and color their favorite things about the school. Upon my arrival I sorted through hundreds of drawings and then designed the murals based on what the children themselves created. Some of the murals were painted by myself and my friend and other parts of the murals I facilitated a crew of volunteers made of up current and past teachers and students to "paint by number" along with us.
This project was and still is one of the largest projects I've had the privilege to work on during my Art Ministry Travels.
